How Does WiFi Range Extender Work
Most Wifi extensions for home use are wireless repeaters. The range extensions receive wireless and "repeated" signals in the air. Now, because you take the repeaters away from your main router, using a range amplifier can effectively increase the overall coverage of your wireless transmission.
However, the increasing coverage of the area is accompanied by costs. "Overflow" or common areas between the repeater and the router can cause performance problems. The original WiFi standard, IEEE 802.11, was released in 1997 and is now obsolete. Since then we have added A, B, G, N and AC. There is absolutely no reason to buy a sophisticated wireless extender with the latest standard if your router does not support it. Check the default that your router supports first, if not at least N then you should really think about replacing it before you opt for an extender.
